Seniors in the Florida Workplace
In the past, many seniors used to think of retirement as a relaxing lifestyle in the Sunshine state, but due to certain economic down turns in our economy, Florida seniors are now choosing to work longer into their retirement years whereas others have a financial need to re-enter the Florida workforce. For others, it may be the need for increased social interaction or simply a need to keep busy to keep their minds challenged and stimulated.
The Senior Worker Advantage
When seeking employment in the Florida marketplace, there are many advantages of hiring a senior employee or someone aged 50 or over. First and foremost, the senior worker brings with them a wealth of accumulated knowledge and experience to their position. Often, older workers serve as mentors for workers with less experience as this is beneficial to the employer. Other advantages senior workers bring to their employers are increased reliability as a worker, increased willingness to work part-time or seasonally as well as established networks of contacts and/or potential customers for their employer.
The Work Matters! Organization
Work Matters! is an organization comprised of area organizations in the Florida Suncoast area which offer programs and services to benefit seniors who are seeking gainful employment. Many of these programs, geared towards improving computer skills, improving interviewing skills, improving resume writing skills, senior-preneurship as well as managing your retirement funds, are offered free or low-cost to the community at large. By taking advantage of these resources, you will learn how to connect with employers via the Internet, learn how to start your own business after age fifty, learn how to become a senior-preneur, and learn how to overcome age discrimination in the workplace by learing how to promote the strenghs that you provide to an employer.

Leading in the New "Retirement Revolution" in Troubled Economic Times
The concept of retirement is rooted in the 20th century and bears little resemblance to 21st century realities. A colossal demographic shift is on the horizon. There is no precendent for this future gap in the workforce, yet we need to be mindful of the economic times. How do we keep our business strong while maneuvering this maze?
This presentation will help guide local employers deal with upcoming labor and talent shortages during difficult economic times.
Help to gain knowledge about the "Encore Society" and work re-orientation. Learn how your organization can provide a new phase of work / life balance for your mature, experienced and loyal employees while reaping bottom line organizational benefits.
Getting the best from your experienced workers. Explore strategies for potential retirees to keep fully engaged and motivated in the critical "Red Zone" (five years before retirement time). Create a corps of "prepared Workers" to learn and or use skills that match hard-to-fill jobs.
Generations working together to ensure knowledge transfer. Reap an experience dividend from the enormous human capital investments that were made in the boomer generation. It's time to enhance the company's culture and connect employees to each other and the company through communication between generations at work today. How best to incorporate "Transfer of Knowledge" and mentoring opportunities to meet your organization's needs.
